2008 = Tough Year
The year 2008 was a tough year for me. My mom, a non-smoker, lost her fight with lung cancer in May. I fell victim to the slumping auto industry as my job was eliminated at a tier 1 automotive supplier. This was a big blow to my running. I did about 95% of my training either at or near work. I live about 27-28 miles from my former place of employment. I started going through my mom and dad’s things (lost my dad in 1/2004), we’re talking 50+ years worth of papers and other packed away things. Here it is January and I’m still not done. I’m getting there though. I was also trying to get things fixed up around my parents house as we had purchased it from my mom earlier in 2008.
Basically, what I’m trying to say is, I haven’t done ant regular running or any working out since the 23rd of July 2008… sad huh? I have recently decided to recommit myself to fitness especially my running. I started doing an extensive cardio regimine this week and strengthing my core. Though last year my thoughts were clouded I see things clearly now. I will run my personal best 5K this year. I’m not currently sure what all races I will participate in, but I do know that I plan on running the Kennsington Challenge as that is where my current personal best 5K was run. My personal best is a 24:25… not the greatest I know, but it’s my best recorded race (I just started running 7/2005 at age 32). I’m also thinking of possibly running the Howell Melon Run in August as that is where I ran my only 10K, but it will depend on how things are going as Kennsington is my priority. I will probably be doing most of my running at Indian Springs Metropark in White Lake, MI so if you run there you may see me. I also use my unicycle to cross train so if you see someone on a black uni with red flames it’s probably me. I will run some charity events, but I’m not sure which ones at this time because I need to solidify my training schedule before deciding when to race. Wish me luck and good luck to everyone on achieving your goals this year as well. Stay injury free.
